Interactive Design Architects (IDEA) has been selected to design the rebuilt Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center. The firm is led by Illinois architecture alumna Dina Griffin (BSAS, 1986).

University of Illinois Graduate Vladimir Radutny, AIA, (BArch 2000, MArch 2002) was awarded the 2016 Dubin Family Young Architect Award by the AIA Chicago Foundation. This is a juried award established in 1983 to recognize excellence in ability and exceptional contributions by Chicago area architects between the ages of twenty-five and thirty-nine. Jurors were “…impressed with Radutny's scope of work that has garnered multiple awards from AIA Chicago and beyond."
Visiting Lecturer David Emmons recently collaborated with architecture senior Yanhao Liu (BSAS '17) on a competition entry entitled "The L.A.W.N." which was awarded a 'Top-6 Finalist' in the Quad Competition for the Architectural Boston Expo. The Quad Competition is an international call for a social space installation.
Visiting Lecturer David Emmons recently collaborated with a former U of I exchange student, Claire Gaspin, on a competition entry titled "Babel: Settlement no. 1" which was awarded Honorable Mention in the 24Hr: Mars Competition sponsored by Ideas Forward. The competition's premise was to envision a settlement on the planet of Mars with scientific research purposes that would be co-financed by space tourism. The competition was the 13th edition of the "24Hr" series and received numerous entries from across the globe. Their proposal "Babel: Settlement no.

The NOMAS chapter affiliated with the Illinois School of Architecture was recognized as 2016 NOMAS Chapter of the Year at the National Association of Minority Architects conference in Los Angeles, October 13-16. Fifteen students from the school attended the conference, including Andres Cueva-Robles, current president, Jesse Han and Sierra Heckman, current co-vice presidents, as well as past presidents Esther Cho and Alexus Davis.
The Illinois School of Architecture lost more than a loyal alumnus and admired emeritus faculty member with the passing of A. Richard (Dick) Williams on May 27, several months short of his 102nd birthday. We lost a singularly gifted friend who contributed immeasurably to the school’s growth and success across the span of eight decades. What we haven’t lost—and can never afford to lose—are fine memories of Dick’s contributions to the school, and to the advancement of the art of architecture.
